The site, on which the Costco Wholesale building was constructed, was originally contaminated by a small municipal landfill. The gases being released from the waste required additional safety measures to prevent the gas from migrating into the building.

A 148,000 sf Liquid Boot Vapor Barrier was installed below the slab of the Costco building. The Liquid Boot Vapor Barrier, unlike traditional membrane barriers which need to be welded together, created a seamless 60 ml liner that conformed to the detail and penetrations that were encountered during the application.

Liquid Boot is a cold sprayed applied membrane. The Liquid Boot is ideal for difficult applications in which numerous penetrations and custom detail is to be encountered. The Liquid Boot application excels in this type of environment by being able to quickly spray the liner onto penetrations of any shape or size, producing a gas tight seal that traditional plastic liners would have difficulty sealing.
